Introduction
When multiple simple agents interact according to local rules, complex macroscopic behaviors that cannot be predicted from individual behavior may emerge at the system level. This "emergence" is one of the most fascinating properties of multi-agent systems.

Definition
Emergence refers to system-level behavior that cannot be simply derived from the behavior of its constituent parts. As Anderson (1972) put it: "More is different."

Implications of Arrow's Impossibility Theorem
In multi-agent decision making, no "perfect" voting/aggregation mechanism exists. In practice, an appropriate aggregation method must be chosen based on the scenario:
